Supporting Family Farmers

How Horizon Organic Supports Family Farmers

Great milk begins with great farmers. We're proud to make organic dairy farming an achievable goal for hundreds of farms across the country. We realize that transitioning to organic requires time and money, and maintaining organic standards demands ongoing investment. But at the end of the day, organic is worth it – environmentally, socially and financially. Our company's enduring success and the success of our farmer partners is our proof – and our promise.

How Horizon Organic Supports Family Farmers

HOPE Program

Horizon Organic Producer EducationThrough our Horizon Organic Producer Education (HOPE) program, we're working to build a strong community of thriving family farms to supply our milk. We work to recruit, educate and champion family farms of all sizes from every corner of the country.

We offer our family farmer partners:

  • Sign-up bonuses and a transitional pay program to help them through the organic conversion process.
  • A long-term sustainable contract guaranteeing a competitive, stable milk price.
  • A competitive quality program, volume and seasonality incentives, and premiums for components.
  • Ongoing support and education through the HOPE program.
  • A voice in the industry. Through our HOPE program, we strengthen the community by keeping our farmer partners informed about regulatory issues at the local and national level. Our goal is for authorities that govern our industry to hear each and every farmer's voice.

Straight From the Farmer

“The cows dearly love being outdoors. Before we switched to organic, I never knew they cared!”

— Netty Loos, Scappoose, Oregon

“We're very proud of our tractor, because it belonged to Michael's grandfather. We'd always wanted to restore it, but we never would have been able to afford to if we hadn't taken the farm to organic.”

— Valery Baltz, Clayton, New York

“Fortunately, the possibility of becoming an organic farm came along. I don't know if we would have been able to keep farming otherwise.”

— Jim Young, Antwerp, New York
